Australia-Africa Week
The annual Australia-Africa Week brings together a range of activities and events to promote and advance Australia-Africa relations. In 2019, the week will be held in Perth from 1-7 September.
At the initiative of the Advisory Group on Australia-Africa Relations (AGAAR), the inaugural Australia-Africa Week in 2016 was built around the longstanding Africa Down Under (ADU) Mining Conference. Established in 2002, ADU began in an effort to raise awareness about Australia’s interests in African mining and energy. Over that period, the conference has grown into the largest African mining focused event outside of Africa. Australia-Africa Week encompasses a diverse program linking universities, business groups, diaspora communities and African ministers and senior officials. Events include the Australia-Africa Universities Network Forum, the Africa Down Under Mining Conference, the Australia-Africa Trade, Investment and Cultural Expo, the Women in Leadership Forum and the Africa Down Under Football Cup. Australia’s diverse African communities make an important contribution to the week, coming together to showcase their culture and contribution to Australia-Africa relations. |
